In connection with the presentation of the second expert report on sexual abuse in the Archdiocese of Cologne, the "Aktionsbündnis Betroffeneninitiativen" and the Giordano Bruno Foundation (gbs) are again demonstrating in front of the Cologne Cathedral. The protest from 17 to 19 March aims to prevent public pressure from subsiding. In addition, the gbs seeks to provide "administrative assistance" so that the overwhelmed church resignation offices can do their job.

After many years of preparations, the Humanistischer Verband Deutschlands (HVD - Humanist Association of Germany), the Giordano Bruno Stiftung (gbs), the Humanistische Akademie Deutschland (HAD - Humanist Academy of Germany) and the Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft humanistischer Studierender (BAG - Federal Association of Humanist Students) have founded the Bertha von Suttner-Studienwerk. With its help, humanist students shall receive the same support as their religious fellow students.

On the occasion of the Spring Plenary Assembly of the German Bishops' Conference, which is meeting digitally this week, a protest rally is being held concurrently on Cologne's Domplatte. With the demonstration "The core problem of the Catholic Church", initiated by the gbs and numerous victim organizations, the event organizers point out the insufficient processing of the abuse scandal in the Catholic Church.

Marking the 100th birthday of its founding advisor Hans Albert, the Giordano Bruno Foundation has produced a film that provides both an entertaining and informative introduction to the life and work of the important science theorist. With previously unpublished images and unusual animations, the documentary explains why Albert's influence on science and society is still underestimated.

The Giordano Bruno Stiftung chose "The high art of rationality: Facts, fakes and perceived truths" as its focus for 2020 - without suspecting that this year would see a "corona crisis" that would also be accompanied by a "rationality crisis". Despite the measures introduced to control the infection rates, the gbs was able to engage in a surprising number of activities in the past year, as the 2020 annual review illustrates.

Abolish the Blasphemy Paragraph Now! [7]

After the murder of French teacher Samuel Paty, the Giordano Bruno Foundation reiterated its demand for the abolition of the "blasphemy paragraph" 166 of the German Criminal Code, which it had already raised after the "cartoon controversy" in 2006 and after the terrorist attack on the satirical magazine "Charlie Hebdo" in 2015. The Institut für Weltanschauungsrecht (ifw), founded by the gbs, has now published a draft law on this issue, with which the "fundamentalist-friendly censorship paragraph" could easily be abolished.

"Nothing makes sense except in the light of evolution" is the cover story of the current issue of "bruno." Furthermore, the elaborately designed annual magazine of the Giordano Bruno Foundation reports, among other things, on the Secular Bus Campaign 2019, the "Karlsruhe Verdict and its Enemies" and "Rationality in the (Coronavirus) Crisis". In the next few days, about 6,000 bruno. issues will be sent out to subscribers of the gbs annual magazine. Further copies can be ordered from the foundation secretariat from 26 October.

Essay competition on the occasion of Hans Albert's 100th birthday

The most important proponent of critical rationalism in Germany, Hans Albert, will be 100 years old next year. To mark the occasion, the Hans Albert Institute (HAI) and the Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Humanistischer Studierender are launching an essay competition for young people up to the age of 30 on the topic "What is rational?" The closing date for entries is the 100th birthday of Hans Albert on February 8, 2021.

The "Virtual Rationality Congress 2020" of the Hans Albert Institute and the Giordano Bruno Foundation addressed these and other questions. Anyone who is interested can now view the lectures of the congress on the HAI YouTube channel.
