43-year-old Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani from Iran, mother of two children, is sentenced to death by stoning for alleged adultery. The case has attracted international attention. Leading Western politicians (such as US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton) have been campaigning for Ashtiani in recent weeks.

The Brazilian President da Silva offered her asylum and asked the Iranian President Ahmadinejad for permission to let Ashtiani leave the country. Due to international pressure, Iran felt compelled to cancel the execution date in July. But Ashtiani's life is still in danger.

Mina Ahadi, chairwoman of the Central Council of Ex-Muslims (and gbs scholarship holder), who coordinates the protests, has called for a campaign day "100 Cities Against Stoning" as spokeswoman of the "International Campaign Against Stoning" for August 28, 2010. The Giordano Bruno Stiftung supports the initiative. In Germany, protests will be held in Berlin, Bremen, Darmstadt, Dortmund, Cologne, Giessen, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hanover, Leipzig, Mainz, Mönchengladbach, Munich, Paderborn, Ulm and Zwickau.
