Entrepreneur meets philosopher: The executive board of the Giordano Bruno Stiftung currently consists of two persons, foundation founder Herbert Steffen (1st chairman) and spokesman of the executive board Dr. Michael Schmidt-Salomon. The two met at the beginning of December 2003. Two weeks later they decided to create a foundation to promote evolutionary humanism. On 15 April 2004, the Giordano Bruno Stiftung was recognised as a "public foundation under civil law with legal capacity".

Board of Trustees

The Giordano Bruno Stiftung's board of trustees consists of six people: former entrepreneur Ingrid Steffen-Binot, former political advisor Robert Maier, perception psychologist and initiator of the Nuremberg "Turm der Sinne" (Tower of Senses) Rainer Rosenzweig and former entrepreneur Wolf Steinberger. Other members include the philosopher Hermann Josef Schmidt and the sculptor and communication designer Jacques Tilly. The board of trustees controls and supports the work of the directorate.

Advisory Board

Many renowned scientists, philosophers and artists are involved in the advisory board of the Giordano Bruno Foundation. The spectrum ranges from evolutionary biologists, brain researchers, psychologists, lawyers and social scientists, bioethicists, science theorists and neurophilosophers to draughtsmen, musicians, children's book and novel authors. Employees/Scholars

In addition to the directorate, board of trustees and advisory board, the gbs has a staff of several (partly voluntary) employees who are responsible for the following areas: Elke Held (business manager), Judith Liesenfeld (secretary of the directorate), Nicolai Sprekels (project management, public relations), Frank Welker (web editor), Evelin Frerk (photo editor), Andreas Leber (administrator of the internal gbs forum), Athmatrix (IT), Helmut Fink (consultant for science and philosophy), Mina Ahadi (human rights work), Thorsten Barnickel (support of the regional groups in their web presence), David Farago, Luisa Lenneper, Falko Pietsch und Maximilian Steinhaus (representatives of the regional groups) as well as Florian Chefai (spokesperson of the university groups).

Patrons

In order to ensure the quality of the foundation's work, the gbs directorate investigated new financing options. In this context the idea of establishing a circle of patrons was developed, which was founded in November 2012. The Giordano Bruno Stiftung currently counts more than 30 donors.

Support Members

Anyone wishing to support the work of the Giordano Bruno Stiftung ideologically and/or financially may join the "Förderkreis der Giordano Bruno Stiftung" (supporters of the Giordano Bruno Stiftung). Any natural person or organization that endorses the foundation's ideas and goals is welcome to become a support member. There is no financial obligation resulting from membership, i.e. support membership does not entail a fixed monthly or annual fee. Each individual may assess for themselves how much they would like to contribute or are able to contribute to the foundation.

Regional Groups

"Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come," is a French proverb. This appears to hold true regarding the gbs. Regional groups of the Giordano Bruno Stiftung have been established in many places - and new ones are constantly emerging. Here you will find a list of gbs groups that have been formed so far. Please also note the information on the regional group representatives (see bottom of page).

Student Groups

The Giordano Bruno Stiftung has student representatives at various universities in Germany. They are responsible for communicating the general principles of evolutionary humanism within their university and providing anyone interested with information material. Help us integrate the ideas of humanism and enlightenment further into society!
