The organisers of the Critical Islam Conference (including the Giordano Bruno Stiftung) have called on the German government to protest "with all determination" against the imminent executions of ex-Muslims in Iran.

In the case of the 28-year-old Ehsan Fattahian, time is particularly pressing: As Mina Ahadi, chairwoman of the "Central Council of Ex-Muslims in Germany" (ZdE), reported, Fattahian is scheduled to be executed early on Wednesday morning because of apostasy and "fighting Islam", according to the reasons for the judgement.

The execution date was not announced until last Sunday. After that, Fattahian began a hunger strike. Five more apostates like him are threatened with execution in the next few days, eleven more persons are sentenced to death for political activities against the mullah regime.

"If international pressure is strong enough, we can save Ehsan and the other prisoners," said Ahadi, who is in contact with the relatives and knows about their despair. "We call on the German government, namely chancellor Angela Merkel and foreign minister Guido Westerwelle, to protest officially on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany against these flagrant human rights violations," the ZdE chairwoman told hpd on Monday morning.

"According to Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, everyone is entitled to freedom of religion," added Michael Schmidt-Salomon, who is one of the initiators of the Critical Conference on Islam as the spokesman of the Giordano Bruno Stiftung. "The Federal Government has advocated for people who converted from Islam to Christianity on several occasions. It is about time that it finally commits itself to people who are free of any religion! After all, they are particularly threatened in theocratic systems like Iran!"

In recent years, Ahadi's network has repeatedly succeeded in saving people from the death penalty. "In Ehsan's case, time is running out fast, but we will do everything in our power," Ahadi promised.
