At a press conference held at the Press and Information Office of the Federal Government on September 17, the "Campaign against the Genital Mutilation of Goddaughters", supported by the gbs, was presented to the public.

The initiative is directed against the inaction of the large godparent organisations, that tolerate genital mutilation, which is widespread in Africa and Asia, even though they have possibilities to take effective action against such human rights violations. The campaign website www.patenmaedchen.de outlines the problem and offers a possible solution. There is also an opportunity to take part in the campaign with protest letters and to exert pressure on the sponsorship organisations through these.
