"The Church Never Accepted Darwin!"

There is currently a rather intense debate about whether or not evolutionary theory can be reconciled with traditional religious beliefs.

After the director of the Berlin Museum für Naturkunde, Reinhold Leinfelder, had reproached in his blog "Ach, du lieber Darwin!" that the gbs abuses Charles Darwin for religion-critical purposes, and the philosopher Jürgen Mittelstraß also stated on Spiegel-Online that the church basically never had problems with Darwin and the theory of evolution, Michael Schmidt-Salomon reacted with a comprehensive replica. In "The Halved Darwin" he pointed out that those who think that the theory of evolution is compatible with traditional beliefs unacceptably trivialize Darwin's (r)evolutionary findings.
