Coordination Council of Secular Organizations (KORSO) Founded

Eleven secular associations, societies, and foundations (including the Giordano Bruno Stiftung) founded the Koordinierungsrat säkularer Organisationen (KORSO - Coordination Council of Secular Organizations) in Berlin on November 16, 2008.

Prof. Dr. Frieder Otto Wolf (President of Humanistische Akademie) was elected first chairman and Dr. Carsten Frerk (gbs curator) was elected second chairman. As stated in the adopted resolution, KORSO aims to represent the interests of non-denominational groups, which now make up more than one third of the German population. The gbs directorate, which travelled all the way to Berlin, considers the founding of KORSO as a milestone on the way to a strengthened public perception of the interests of religion-free people in Germany. "We are glad that the many discussions in the last years have finally led to a visible result," explained gbs spokesman Michael Schmidt-Salomon in Mastershausen and appealed to media representatives and politics to take the newly founded special interest group of the denomination-free seriously.
